What's a "normal" voltmeter reading for my '93 toyota pickup?

6 cyl 3.0L (3VZ-E). I've owned the truck about a week. Love it. The voltmeter on the instrument panel reads fairly consistently near the high end of the meter. I'm guessing about 16V? Seems high and I'm wondering what the issue is (alternator etc).
