How do you know what key a song is in?

I am transposing music. If each part (Tenor Sax, Flute, Trumpet...) Whatever note the new transposed music starts on... does that mean it is in that key? If the song starts on G for flute... is the song in key of G? and if Tenor starts on A then is the song in the key of A???
