How to get my tiel to like me?

i have a new little friend..a atiel! :) i named him puck because he has a mohawk like puck off of glee..anywho...whenever i walk up to his cage and put my hand in, he totally flips out and starts hissing and biting like crazy...but once i get him out, he chirps and sings and sits on my finger/shoulder/head or whatever...so what can i do so he'll not get so scared once i get near the cage and try to put him on my finger?
