Why are my shots underexposed when using a bounce flash?

Bouncing the flash extends the flash to subject distance. Plus some light is always lost in the bouncing, unless you're bouncing off a mirror. Bouncing off a white surface is ideal. You will need to give the flash more power, or add to the exposure in another way, usually by opening up the aperture.
